Sax Zim Bog, northern Minnesota
One of the most striking of owls is the Great Gray. These owls reside in the boreal forests of Canada and the northernmost areas of the U.S. Occasionally, they move into northern Minnesota to winter at the Sax Zim Bog. The bog has become well-known for viewing these beautiful birds in the coldest months of the year--January and February. My spouse and I have made the trek to the bog and observed not only the owls but myriad other wildlife as well. There is a story behind each of the owl photos and great pleasure in seeing them in their natural habitat.
